27 Moons Project: Mula Nakshatra
...the key to understanding your mind and the mind of others
In Vedic astrology, the moon is divided into 27 divisions called Nakshatra. The moon is our mind and therefore how we filter all thoughts, impressions and experiences. Knowing our Moon Nakshatra and the Nakshatras of others is key to understanding and appreciating how we think and approach the world. If you don’t know your Nakshatra, you can find out what it is here.
Happy Moon Monday!
For the next half a year, I’ll be writing a post about the current Nakshatra of the moon every Monday, the day naturally ruled by the moon.
If you don’t know what Nakshatra are, check out this post first.
For now, let’s dive into the Nakshatra the moon is currently in this lovely Monday.
This Monday’s Nakshatra: Mula
Mula is the nineteenth Nakshatra in the Vedic lunar zodiac, extending from 0°00' to 13°20' Sagittarius. It is governed by the planet Ketu.
The term "Mula" translates to "The Root" or "The Foundation" in English, capturing the essence of this Nakshatra's energy and symbolism.
In Sanskrit transliteration, Mula is written as Mūla and is pronounced as "Moo-la." Sometimes it is also written like this as well.
This Nakshatra is associated with the star Epsilon Scorpii, symbolizing the profound and transformative nature of its influence. Mula is known for its intensity, often signifying the rooting out of old patterns and the initiation of profound inner changes.
Let's explore the characteristics of Mula by delving into its symbols, deity, and general keywords to gain insights into the mindset of individuals with their moon in this Nakshatra.
Symbols
Each Nakshatra has several symbols that can help you visualize their deeper meaning.
Mula is symbolized by a bunch of roots tied together.
A Mula Nakshatra native is one who likes to get down to the very core of the matter, even if this means digging down to the roots of a topic to pull up that which is not usually seen. These are not people who are fooled by the surface of something. They are relentless, determined and stubborn and insist on getting to the heart of the matter.
No beating around the bush with Mula natives!
Another symbol for Mula is the elephant goad. This is a traditional tool used to handle and train elephants. This speaks to Mula’s courage and sharp edge. Even the mighty elephant must bend to their will.
Ruling deity
When it comes to Nakshatras, knowing the ruling deity gets you closer to understanding their inner nature than the sign they are in.
The ruling deity for Mula Nakshatra is Nirrti, the goddess of chaos and disorder.
A Mula native often has a haphazard and chaotic way of working. On the one hand, this is good as it leads to true out-of-the-box thinking. However, if they lean too far into chaos and jump too quickly into decisions, their world can fall apart around them like a hastily placed Ace of Spades in a house of cards. To avoid this, they should always focus on first on getting to the root of a matter before jumping into action.
Like Nirrti, Mula natives have the power to break apart and destroy. This can be negative if they choose to invoke Nirrti in their actions, by falling into chaotic patterns that leave destruction in its wake.
However, they also send Nirrti packing by uprooting and obliterating that which is causing chaos and disorder. by doing so, they are able to renew and restore a sense of order and balance.
Skills and interests
Mula Nakshatra natives are naturally skilled at anything that requires destruction to make way for the new. This can be something as obvious as working in a demolition crew, weeding in a garden or working as an editor whose job is to “remove and destroy” words from a text that don’t belong there.
They also make excellent doctors who won’t give up until they’ve rooted out disease in patients.
Often they are skilled at advising others and have an inherently persuasive nature.
Mula natives are hard workers who can effectively take on responsibilities and bring them to a successful finish. They can face even the fiercest opposition and always stick to their principles.
That said, they do have the tendency to be restless and easily bored. It is not unusual for Mula natives to change careers several times in their lifetime. Although often blessed with good fortune, this good fortune has a tendency to blossom in foreign lands rather than in their homeland.
Although their own nature tends to be on the intense side, they often are have a love of peace as well as the ability to stay calm in the face of hardship. Typical professions for Mula Nakshatra natives include lawyers, politicians, writers, spiritual teachers (or advisors of any kind), doctors and pharmacists.
