Jupiter is the planet of expansiveness, wealth, peace and general good fortune. What’s not to love about this jolly guy who’s called the ‘greater benefic’ in traditional astrology? He’s truly the magnanimous Santa Claus of the sky.
The planet recently went direct again in Pisces, its traditional sign of rulership. Since Pisces is a feminine water sign, Jupiter in Pisces provides a particularly great opportunity to work on your ‘wealth of spirit’ by looking inward to become a more spiritual, just and wise person.
Jupiter will be in Pisces until just December 20/21, when it moves into Aries for the second time and for good (i.e., no more retrograding back into Pisces). There won’t be any powerful Jupiter elections until June 2025, when the planet moves into Cancer, the sign of its exaltation, so hurry on up and get the Jupiter boost when the goings still good!
Jupiter in Pisces election
On Thursday, December 1, 2022 there is a great Jupiter election that you can use for a variety of Jupiterian purposes, such as:
Increasing wealth, whether material or spiritual
Gaining general good fortune
Boosting optimism and expansiveness in your life
Enhancing personal and spiritual growth
Opening up to healing
Starting a new meditation or spiritual practice
In most place, this election is also on the day and hour of Jupiter, which gives it even more power!
The chart
This Jupiter in Pisces electional chart is timed for December 1, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. for my location in Berlin, Germany and can be used anywhere in the European Union (times for other locations listed below).
Strong in the sign it traditionally rules, Pisces is directly on the MC (Mid-heaven), which speaks to gaining recognition or starting a career tied to spirtuality, religion or humanitarian work. However, it could also be used for more inner work as well. With Neptune so close and the applying moon in between, this election has an ethereal quality and would be excellent for anything mystical and dream-like, especially something tied to the sea.
With the sun in Sagittarius, another sign Jupiter rules, in the 5th house, you could also use this election for starting creative projects with a transcendent, other worldly feel to them.
What the election is less ideal for: Since Mercury is in his sign of detriment in the unfortunate 6th house, as well as under the beams of the sun, this election is not ideal for starting a new business or writing project.
If you need to relocate the chart, here are the times to use (if your location is missing from the list, just ask and I’ll look it up for you :) ) :
Europe
Central European Standard Time: December 1, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
Greenwich Mean Time (UK): same time
USA/Canada
Eastern Time Zone: same time
Central Time Zone: same time
Mountain Time Zone: same time
Pacific Time Zone: in the evening election, the moon has moved past Jupiter, so if you live at PST you need to do an afternoon election at 1:10 p.m. This will put Jupiter on the ascendant, which makes it particularly ideal for personal and spiritual growth.
How to use an electional chart
I wrote this text which gives you more details about electional astrology, so check it out if you don’t know what this is or would like to know more.
In a nutshell, you need to do some sort of concrete action at the time of the election to set the ball in motion. This could be something like:
Signing up for a class.
Sending an e-mail or making a phone call.
Starting a new meditation or spiritual practice
You don’t have to do much more than that at this stage, just make the first move. Whatever you initiate at this moment will hold the energy of the election, allowing you to benefit from it in the long run.
How to use this chart magically
This chart is very potent and can also be used for astrological magic. For this, you can create either a petition or a prayer, for a “one-off” request, or a talisman, which allows you to harness this energy for future use. To do so, you need to perform a ritual as described in the Picatrix, a 10th century book on astrological magic.
Here’s how to do so (n.b. some of this is my own way of doing things combined with what it says in the Picatrix, which is fairly barebones):
Shortly before the election, light a candle and some incense or plant material that corresponds to Jupiter, such as sage, hyssop, rue, olive leaves or oak leaves.
Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Imagine your body being surrounded by the color yellow. Breath. Now imagine tin is coming up through the ground and coating your bones. Once all your bones have been covered, imagine the planet Jupiter floating above your head. Now imagine his symbol in your heart. It looks like this.*
Open your eyes and recite the Orphic hymn to Jupiter, which is below:
O Jove, much-honour'd, Jove supremely great,
To thee our holy rites we consecrate,
Our pray'rs and expiations, king divine,
For all things to produce with ease thro' mind is thine.
Hence mother Earth and mountains swelling high
Proceed from thee, the deep and all within the sky.
Saturnian king, descending from above,
Magnanimous, commanding, sceptred Jove;
All-parent, principle and end of all,
Whose pow'r almighty shakes this earthly ball;
Ev'n Nature trembles at thy mighty nod,
Loud-sounding, arm'd with light'ning, thund'ring God.
Source of abundance, purifying king,
O various-form'd, from whom all natures spring;
Propitious hear my pray'r, give blameless health,
With peace divine, and necessary wealth.
Now it’s time to create the talisman or prayer/petition. To do so, either imagine the following (for a petition or prayer), draw it on a piece of paper imbued with Jupiterian herbs (list above) or carve/scratch it on amethyst, lapis lazuli, clear quartz, citrine or tin/pewter, all of which have a Jupiterian nature.
The image you need to use for the visualization/drawing/carving:
A man covered in a single linen cloth riding upon a dragon with a dart or lance in his hand.
You also need to add the seal of Jupiter, which looks like this:
If you’re not much of an artist, don’t worry (I can’t draw at all). It’s totally fine if you just draw stick figures and a wonky looking dragon. It’s the intention behind creating the image that matters, not the aesthetic results.
Once you’ve finished your drawing or carving, pull the talisman or paper through the incense smoke several times and state your intention out loud. If you’ve opted for a prayer/petition, state it into the smoke.
You can be as specific or general as you want, but make sure what you’re asking is something Jupiter can actually deliver according to his nature. Jupiter can help with increasing spiritual and financial wealth, as I mentioned, but the big guy can’t really help much with your love life, for example, (although he can bring general good luck, so who knows?)
Once you’ve finished, you can lay the talisman/paper down next to the candle and leave it there at least until the incense has burned down.
Please note:
The timing for the ritual from start to finish is crucial. Here are the windows you can use for each of the time zones listed above (in a few cases, the times are slightly earlier to leave room for the beginning of the ritual):
Europe and the US (except PST): December 1, 2022 from 6:55 p.m. (start carving/drawing no earlier than 7:00 p.m.) to 7:18 p.m.
Pacific Time Zone: December 1, 2022 from 1:05 p.m. (start carving/drawing no earlier than 1:10 p.m.) to 1:24 p.m.
If you end up going over a little bit, it’s not the end of the world, but you should definitely have the basic carving or drawing and suffimigation in the incense finished before this time.
A few final thoughts
I’ve been practicing astrological magic for around four years now and I’ve had some really great results. What I especially like about it is that it is strict and particular in that you have to wait for a great election like this one for it to work (if you don’t, best case scenario, it won’t work, worst case scenario, it will have negative results). It’s also important to use materials that correspond to Jupiter and an image as specified in the Picatrix, but other than that, the rituals are fairly simple and straightforward.
That said, your ritual in itself can be an artistic act, and I have noticed that when I put in more effort, I often get stronger results. Some ideas for how to do this would be to:
Create a small altar for Jupiter using e.g. Jupiter’s magic square, seal, and the other symbols you can find here. Again, you could simply print this sheet out, draw it on a yellow, purple or sea green cloth (Jupiter’s colors) or etch it on glass, whatever. It’s totally up to you.
Dress in yellow, purple or sea green and perhaps add some olive leaves to the altar or the branch of an oak tree.
Incorporate the number four into your altar, which is Jupiter’s number (e.g. four candles, four crystals like citrine or amethyst, etc.)
Do the ritual in a church or place of worship.
Again, none of this is necessary, but it can make things fun and help the energy attune even more to the nature of Jupiter, thus boosting the results.
If you do end up using the election or making a talisman, feel free to share your story below!
