Great Venus in Libra Election for Romance, Sexuality and Artistic Expression
Venus is currently in Libra, one of its signs of rulership. Libra brings out Venus in her more outward expression: charming, creatively expressive, flirty, joyful, beautiful, a lover of fun, the arts and design. She is one who brings harmony and people together rather than tearing them asunder.
Great energy to have an harness for many of life’s greatest pleasures, be they creative, social, romantic or (verbally) sensual. This is Venus in an expressive and communicative air sign after.
Venus in Libra election
On Saturday, November 25, there is a great Venus in Libra election that you can use for a variety of Venusian purposes, such as:
Starting a creative project
Enhancing beauty and charm
Socializing and social graces
Boosting joy
Love and sex
The chart
The Venus in Libra chart below is timed for July 25, 2023 at 3:17 a.m. for my location in Berlin, Germany and can be used anywhere in Europe. It can also be used in some locations in the US, but not all (see info about relocating below).
Since Venus in Libra is directly on the Ascendant, it means the Venusian traits described above will be given to the wearer.
In any electional chart, the moon is extremely important because it acts as the intermediary between the celestial realm and the material plane. Without the support of the moon, the election is ultimately ineffective. A particularly beautiful part of this chart is that the moon is in its sign of exaltation (Taurus) and at the exact degree of its highest exaltation (3 degrees). It is also applying to a conjunction with Jupiter, which increases the auspiciousness of this election.
Since the form of astrological magic I practice is based on a tropical Western zodiac, I tend to default to this form of astrology rather than considering what I know for sidereal Vedic astrology. However, I still do keep the nodes in mind.
In Western astrology, the North Node and South Node of the moon are mostly either ignored, or the South Node is seen as negative and the North Node is seen as positive. But in Jyotish (Vedic astrology) Rahu (the North Node) and Ketu (the South Node) are both seen as malefic, with Rahu the most malefic planet of all – even more malefic than Saturn. Since I wholeheartedly agree with this interpretation – it also speaks to my own experience with the nodes in my chart – I do keep their position in mind when considering an election.
Although both Rahu and Ketu are a negative combination with any planet, the one exception to this is Venus and Ketu. This combination, which is in this electional chart, is actually considered good for “marriage,” i.e., committed relationships.
Relocating the chart
If you need to relocate the chart, here are the times to use (if you’re location is missing from the list, just ask and I’ll look it up for you :) ) As is always the case with electional charts, it might not work everywhere and/or will change the date and time depending on your location:
Europe
Central European Standard Time/Greenwich Mean Time: November 25, 2023 at 3:17 a.m.
USA/Canada
In the US and Canada you lose the 3 degrees of exaltation, but that doesn’t make much of difference.
Eastern Standard Time/Central time: July 25, 2023 at 3:00 a.m.
Mountain time/Pacific time: Unfortunately, this election doesn’t work in either of these time zones because the moon has already moved past Jupiter and is Void of Course.
If you live outside of Europe or North America, let me know and I’ll check if the election works in your area.
How to use an electional chart
I wrote this text which gives you more details about electional astrology, so check it out if you don’t know what this is or would like to know more.
In a nutshell, you need to do some sort of concrete action at the time of the election to set the ball in motion. This could be something like:
Naming and saving a word document you plan to use later.
Signing up for a class/course.
Sending an e-mail or making a phone call.
You don’t have to do much more than that at this stage, just make the first move. Whatever you initiate at this moment will hold the energy of the election, allowing you to benefit from it in the long run.
How to use this chart magically
This chart is very potent and can also be used for astrological magic. For this, you create either a petition or a talisman, which allows you to harness this energy for future use. To do so, you need to perform a ritual as described in the Picatrix, a 10th century book on astrological magic.
Here’s how to do so (n.b. some of this is my own way of doing things combined with what it says in the Picatrix, which is fairly barebones):
Shortly before the election, light a candle and some incense or plant material that corresponds to Venus, such as mint, catnip, lady’s mantle, fig, vervain, or mugwort.
Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Imagine your body being surrounded by the color copper. Breath. Now imagine copper is coming up through the ground and coating your bones. Once all your bones have been covered, imagine the planet Venus floating above your head. Now imagine the symbol for Venus in your heart. In case you don’t know, it looks like this.*
Open your eyes and recite the Orphic hymn to Venus, which is below:
HEAV'NLY, illustrious, laughter-loving queen,
Sea-born, night-loving, of an awful mien;
Crafty, from whom necessity first came,
Producing, nightly, all-connecting dame:
Tis thine the world with harmony to join,
For all things spring from thee, O pow'r divine.
The triple Fates are rul'd by thy decree,
And all productions yield alike to thee:
Whate'er the heav'ns, encircling all contain,
Earth fruit-producing, and the stormy main,
Thy sway confesses, and obeys thy nod,
Awful attendant of the brumal God:
Goddess of marriage, charming to the sight,
Mother of Loves, whom banquetings delight;
Source of persuasion, secret, fav'ring queen,
Illustrious born, apparent and unseen:
Spousal, lupercal, and to men inclin'd,
Prolific, most-desir'd, life-giving., kind:
Great sceptre-bearer of the Gods, 'tis thine,
Mortals in necessary bands to join;
And ev'ry tribe of savage monsters dire
In magic chains to bind, thro' mad desire.
Come, Cyprus-born, and to my pray'r incline,
Whether exalted in the heav'ns you shine,
Or pleas'd in Syria's temple to preside,
Or o'er th' Egyptian plains thy car to guide,
Fashion'd of gold; and near its sacred flood,
Fertile and fam'd to fix thy blest abode;
Or if rejoicing in the azure shores,
Near where the sea with foaming billows roars,
The circling choirs of mortals, thy delight,
Or beauteous nymphs, with eyes cerulean bright,
Pleas'd by the dusty banks renown'd of old,
To drive thy rapid, two-yok'd car of gold;
Or if in Cyprus with thy mother fair,
Where married females praise thee ev'ry year,
And beauteous virgins in the chorus join,
Adonis pure to sing and thee divine;
Come, all-attractive to my pray'r inclin'd,
For thee, I call, with holy, reverent mind.
Now it’s time to create the talisman or petition. To do so, either imagine the following (for a petition), draw it on a piece of paper imbued with Venusian herbs (list above) or carve/scratch it on malachite, an aquamarine, carnelian, white coral or copper, all of which have a Venusian nature.
The image you need to use for the drawing/carving:
A woman holding up an apple in her right hand and in her left a comb similar to a tablet with these characters on it OVOIOV(the V need to be upside down, couldn’t print that here…). You also need to add the seal of Venus, which looks like this:
If you’re not much of an artist, don’t worry (I can’t draw at all). It’s totally fine if you just draw stick figures and a wonky looking dragon. It’s the intention behind creating the image that matters, not the aesthetic results.
Once you’ve finished your drawing or carving, pull the talisman or paper through the incense smoke several times and state your intention, e.g. Please help me, ______, to gain artistic inspiration/charm/romantic allure, etc.
You can be as specific or general as you want, but make sure what you’re asking is something Venus can actually deliver according to her nature. Once you’ve finished, you can lay the talisman/paper down next to the candle and leave it there at least until the incense has burned down.
Please note:
The timing for the ritual from start to finish is crucial. Here are the windows you can use for each of the time zones listed above (in a few cases, the times are slightly earlier to leave room for the beginning of the ritual):
Europe
November, 2023 from 3:09 a.m. to 3:40 a.m.
US & Canada (Eastern and Central time only)
November 25, 2023 from 2:48 to 3:15 a.m.
A few final thoughts
I’ve been practicing astrological magic for around four years now and I’ve had some really great results. What I especially like about it is that it is strict and particular in that you have to wait for a great election like this one for it to work, and you have to use materials that correspond to Venus and an image as specified in the Picatrix, but other than that, the rituals are fairly simple and straightforward.
That said, your ritual in of itself can be an artistic act, and I have noticed that when I put in more effort, I sometimes get stronger results. Some ideas in this case would be to:
Create a small altar for the Venus using e.g. the Venus’ magic square, seal, and the other symbols; you can find the symbols and great suggestions here.
Dress up and use plenty of flowers and Venusian colors, like green, white and copper.
Incorporate the number seven into your altar, which is the Venus’s number (e.g. seven white roses, seven white or green candles, etc.)
Add a mirror to your altar and some ripe and juicy figs
Again, none of this is necessary, but it can make things fun and help the energy attune even more to the nature of Venus.
I’ve created Venus in Libra talismans in the past and found them excellent for enjoyable social experience in particular.
If you do end up using the election or making a talisman, feel free to share your story below!
*Thanks to Austin Coppock for suggesting this small meditation to tune into Venus’ planetary energy!
