In the sidereal zodiac, Jupiter has just moved into the sign of Taurus.
Called "Guru" in Sanskrit, Jupiter is one of the most auspicious planets in Vedic astrology. Guru translates as "teacher" or "guide," which emphasizes Jupiter’s role in bringing wisdom, expansion, and enlightenment into our lives. Jupiter governs prosperity, knowledge, higher education, law, and spirituality, and represents growth, generosity and abundance.
We all could use a little more of that, right?
In the context of the five great elements (Pancha Maha Bhutas), Jupiter is associated with Akasha, also called the ether or space element.
This can be a tricky one to understand, as it is not as tangible as the other four elements, air, water, fire and earth. I think the best way to think of it is that which connects each and everything in the universe.
In other words, Akasha represents the all-encompassing space that allows for growth, expansion and nurturing spiritual wisdom.
Although what Jupiter’s transit brings will depend on your own chart (e.g., whether it crosses over certain planets, etc.) it will bring this sense of expansion, good fortune and potential for growth to whichever house it travels through.
Here are a few basic ideas for what this might mean for you based on the house in your chart which is in Taurus.
Guru in Taurus through the houses
First House (Self, Body): Jupiter here may enhance personal growth, clarity, physical well-being and a positive self-image.
Second House (Financial Resources, Family): A transit in this house could bring opportunities for healing or growth in financial matters and harmonious family relationships. This is also the house of food and speech, and Jupiter could positively impact these matters as well.
Third House (Effort, Siblings, Neighbors): Jupiter placed here natally is not ideal as this is the house of will-power and effort – the natural realm of Mars. However, transiting this house, Jupiter could bring ease in relationships with sibling and neighbors as well as knowledge and ideas on how to better push for what it is you want.
Fourth House (Home, Mother): Jupiter could bring peace and prosperity at home, improve relationships with your mother, or lead to buying or improving a house or car (vehicles are another signification of this house). This is also the house of happiness, and Jupiter passing through can bring in a deeper sense of emotional well-being.
Fifth House (Children, Students, Education): This transit might enhance creativity, academic success, and relationships with children. The fifth house is also the house of mantra, which means Jupiter passing through will help you with any mantra practice you do or plan to start.
Sixth House (Debt, Disease, Enemies): Jupiter here can provide relief from health issues and conflicts. The sixth house is also the house of pets, so his presence might bring a new positive furry or feathered friend into your life.
Seventh House (Marriage, Partnerships): Benefits through romantic partners or business partnerships are likely during this transit. Jupiter moving through here might also mean expansion and growth in your spouse’s life.
Eighth House (Debts, Hidden Things, the Occult): The eighth house is the house of debt, and Jupiter transiting through may bring “positive” debt into your life, such as being approved for a loan that helps your business grow. It is also the house of your partner’s resources, which may bring them good fortune in money affairs. As the house of the occult, Jupiter’s presence here may increase your interest in subjects like astrology or tarot, or bring in the chance to receive a beneficial reading that leads to greater clarity.
Ninth House (Father, Guru, Spirituality): Fortunate developments related to higher education, spirituality, or relationships with your father or (spiritual) teachers could occur with Jupiter’s transit through the 9th. This is also the house of foreign travel and good fortune, so Jupiter’s presence could have you traveling more to faraway places or bring good fortune in general
Tenth House (Career, Reputation): Professional growth and increased public recognition are possible outcomes when Jupiter moves through the 10th.
Eleventh House (Gains, Friendships): Jupiter here could signify financial gains in general as well as expansion and good luck through friends and social networks.
Twelfth House (Loss, Expenses, Spirituality): Increased spiritual growth and potential for foreign travel (especially spiritual retreats) can also be a possibility when Jupiter goes through the 12th, though watch for increased expenses.
Jupiter in Krittika Nakshatra
Although I write about the Moon’s Nakshatra in my 27 Moons Project posts, the planets move through the Nakshatras as well. Jupiter moved into Krittika Nakshatra on April 17, 2024 when the planet was still in Aries.
With Jupiter transiting through Krittika Nakshatra, which is ruled by the Sun and resides partly in Taurus, the focus turns towards on purification, clarity of thought, and assertiveness. Krittika’s influence can lead to a disciplined approach towards achieving higher knowledge and moral integrity. Jupiter's benign presence in this fiery nakshatra often directs energy towards righteous living and high thinking, motivating individuals to cut through ignorance and seek truth.
As Jupiter graces Krittika Nakshatra in Taurus, we are reminded of the balance between material prosperity and spiritual growth, urging us to harness Jupiter’s wisdom to illuminate our lives both practically and spiritually.
Jupiter will remain in Krittika until it moves into the next Nakshatra, Rohini, on June 12.
My experience with my last Jupiter transit
Jupiter just finished transiting my 9th house, and it brought me a lot of growth and fortune in 9th house matters during its time there.
I had already discovered my Jyotish teacher before this period, but I gained other valuable teachers and access to even more complex and profound Jyotish knowledge when I started studying in Pandit Sanjay Rath’s Parāśara Jyotiṣa Course. My own spiritual path and practice also deepened during this period.
Last but certainly not least, I also did a lot of traveling, sometimes quite unexpectedly, such as a week-long working trip in Italy, an out-of-the-blue family trip to Colorado (which I hadn’t visited since my teens), and of course, the mind-blowing trip I took to Varanasi, which was my first but definitely not my last visit to India.
Now Jupiter has entered my tenth house, and there has already been positive developments at my job that may lead to a significant raise as well as increased overall esteem for my team.
I also hope Jupiter’s time in the 10th helps me build by Vedic astrology consultation practice. I really love working with clients one-on-one and helping them by means of this ancient wisdom translated and applied to better our modern lives.
I’m currently seeing clients regularly, but still not to the point where I could afford to give up my day job. More growth in this area would be great, so Jupiter, bring it on!
Jupiter is entering my 10H, too. I learned a lot during its transit through my 9H, both spiritually and intellectually. I started and completed my master’s degree and now I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned in the hermit house with the public.
