The 27 Moons Project: Purnavasu Nakshatra
...the key to understanding your mind and the mind of others
In Vedic astrology, the moon is divided into 27 divisions called Nakshatra. The moon is our mind and therefore how we filter all thoughts, impressions and experiences. Knowing our Moon Nakshatra and the Nakshatras of others is key to understanding and appreciating how we think and approach the world. If you don’t know your Nakshatra, you can find out what it is here.
Happy Moon Monday!
For the next half a year, I’ll be writing a post about the current Nakshatra of the moon every Monday, the day naturally ruled by the moon.
If you don’t know what Nakshatra are, check out this post first.
For now, let’s dive into the Nakshatra the moon is currently in this lovely Monday.
This Monday’s Nakshatra: Purnavasu
Purnavasu is the seventh Nakshatra in the Vedic lunar zodiac, extending from 20°00' Gemini to 3°20' Cancer. It is governed by the planet Jupiter.
The term "Purnavasu" means “renewal,” “return” or “regeneration,” capturing the essence of this Nakshatra's energy and symbolism.
This Nakshatra is associated with two bright stars, Castor and Pollux.
To gain insights into the mindset of individuals with their moon in this Nakshatra, let's explore its symbols, deity, and general keywords.
Symbols
Each Nakshatra has several symbols that can help you visualize their deeper meaning.
Purnavasu is symbolized by a potter’s wheel and a quiver, bow, and arrow.
A Purnavasu Nakshatra native is truly a Mother Earth type who loves harmony, nature and creative pursuits. Their energy is like long overdue rain nourishing parched soil, bringing fertility, comfort and growth. This makes them beloved by many.
However, a second symbol for Purnavasu Nakshatra is the quiver, bow, and arrow. Although generally a happy-go-lucky person who can get along with anyone, they truly hate falsehood and injustice of any kind. This makes them a natural-born activist who has a knack for political, social or environmental justice.
They do not easily get discouraged by failure, but instead get up to fight another day.
Ruling deity
When it comes to Nakshatras, knowing the ruling deity gets you closer to understanding their inner nature than the sign they are in.
The ruling deity for Purnavasu Nakshatra is Aditi Devatā, the mother of the Ādityas (a group of solar deities representing various aspects of nature and cosmic order) as well as the goddess of light, abundance and nurturing.
In Hindu cosmology, Aditi is described as the cosmic matrix, the divine energy from which the universe emerges and to which it eventually returns. She is portrayed as the embodiment of purity, fertility and nourishment, symbolizing the boundless expanse of the universe and the nurturing aspect of creation.
Similarly, Purnavasu natives often bring “light” and seek to nuture the world through their spiritual pursuits, creative works, vision and innovation.
Skills and interests
Purnavasu Nakshatra natives are truly the-glass-is-half-full people. They tend to see the best in people and can keep a positive outlook even in times of crisis. They value harmony and have a naturally loving, caring nature.
They are often gifted in the arts and drawn to philosophy and spirituality. These are people who truly wish to do good in the world. In awe of the beauty of nature, they are often drawn to holistic or natural medicine.
These are friendly souls who are genuinely interested in others, which give them a talent for making connections.
Although occasionally short tempered, Purnavasu Nakshatra natives are charitable and generous to others, especially those in need. A straight shooter who can’t help but be honest, they do not thrive in professions that require you to compete unfairly with others or bend the truth.
