Venus has definitely been having a hard time of it these past four months. In December, she conjuncted Pluto in Capricorn and later went retrograde in the sign, passing over Pluto two more times on her repeat descent into the underworld.
While in Aquarius, Venus spent most of March besieged between Mars and Saturn, a time when many of us felt stuck between a rock and a hard place, especially in terms of establishing harmony in relationships and relating.
With Venus repeatedly in a difficult position for so long – and Saturn very prominent for most of it – you may have felt that joy was in short supply.
But now the good news: On April 5, Venus will finally regain strength and dignity when she moves into Pisces.
Venus in Pisces
Venus stands for love and desire, that which unites us and brings us together despite our differences. She is the delight we feel when we listen to a beautiful peace of music or breathe in the sensuous perfume from the soft petals of a rose. She is the thrill of a lover’s hand on the small of our back and a sunset sparkling across the water.
In traditional astrology, Venus is said to be in her sign of exaltation when in Pisces, which means this is the sign where her qualities are most potent and celebrated. She is in her sign of fall Virgo, which makes this sign more challenging for her to express herself freely.
Venus is a sensual planet who seeks pleasure. When she’s too extreme, you get hedonism, a person who flits from party to party or partner to partner, always seeking the next thrill, luxury living and little else.
In Jupiter-ruled Pisces, Venus, the goddess of carnal passions and sometimes selfish desire is colored with an ocean’s wave of Jupiterian good will and higher truth. This can bring to her a sense of selfless, universal love that can help balance out some of her more decadent or self-serving tendencies.
Pisces is a sign of faith and surrender, and that which Venus stands for benefits from such an act. At their best, Venusian pursuits such as love and art require an act of surrender if you wish to take them to their ultimate depth.
Venus’ sign of fall, Mercury-ruled Virgo, is a sign of the intellect, which is less suited to what Venus truly has to offer. You can read a book about sex, something else Venus stand for, but you won’t truly know what this means until your body joins with a lover. An essay about art is not the same as losing yourself in the beauty of a painting and listening to a lecture about meaning in music is a far cry from what it is to be moved to tears when swept away by a song.
Please note that I’m not making a judgement here. Art scholarship certainly has its value and books written by psychologists that astutely analyze love and relationships can help people better understand their partners as well as their behaviours and patterns, and stop making bad choices in this regard.
With the mix of Venusian artistry and Mercurial attention to detail, Venus in Virgo in a person’s natal chart can make excellent craftsmen or wordsmiths. Some women with Venus in Virgo can be immaculately feminine and famous for their beauty – examples include Kim Kardashian, Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot.
However, this placement natally tends to bring issues with perfectionism around beauty and relationships as well as a tendency to over analyze and worry about these aspects of life. At times, a person with Venus in Virgo may struggle with simply enjoying pleasure for the sake of pleasure.
Venus in Pisces, however, allows us to enjoy the watery bounty of the sea where love and beauty and harmony flow and sparkle in a place beyond analysis and words.
Venus in Pisces through the houses
When Venus moves into Pisces, she will join Jupiter who is currently in that sign. Traditionally seen as the “benefics,” these two planets bring good fortune – and both are particularly strong in Pisces.
To understand what this might mean for you, look at the house in your chart with Pisces on the cusp, as well as any planets you might have in this sign. Below, I’ve offered some ideas for you to consider.
Pisces Rising
If you have Pisces rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 1st house. This house is what is called one of the angular houses and it is powerful point in the chart that represents your physical body, who you are and your life purpose and direction. With Venus and Jupiter strong here, your outlook on life receive a wave of positivity and optimism. This can be great for things like:
accepting and improving body image
finding inspiration and higher meaning in where your life is headed
feel a sense of good will towards other that can be (positively) infectious
A word of warning: Both Jupiter and Venus can be indulgent signs that love the good things in life, like flowing wine and ice cream sundaes with tons of toppings. Feel free to let go and live a little while they’re here, but be careful not to overdo things if you’d like to avoid an expanding waistline!
Aries Rising
If you have Aries rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 12th house. The 12th house speaks to the ways we undermine ourselves as well as our hidden fears, but it also stands for solitude and solitary places. With these two benefic planets hanging out here for a bit, this can be great for:
building a meditation practice
finding positive ways to be alone
work productively and receive support on any negative or self-destructive patterns
Taurus Rising
If you have Taurus rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 11th house. The 11th house speaks to your hopes and aspirations, friends, networks and associations within groups of people. When Venus and Jupiter hang out here, this may mean:
positive and helpful people will pop up in your life and network and support you in your endeavors
your circle of friends will be particularly inspiring and supportive
you will feel particularly hopeful and creative in your dreams for the future
Gemini Rising
If you have Gemini rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 10th house. Like the 1st house, the 10th house is a powerful angular house that represents your career and public image as well as people in authority, such as your boss. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may experience particular good fortune in:
your career and standing at work
your public image and general popularity
the support you receive from your boss or other figures of authority
Cancer Rising
If you have Cancer rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 9th house. The 9th house represents our beliefs, higher learning and foreign travel. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may find good fortune and inspiration in:
foreign travel (with Venus there, this could also mean a sweet love affair abroad!)
in your studies or spiritual practice
An inspirational teacher or woman may also pop up in your life at this time.
Leo Rising
If you have Leo rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 8th house. One of the heavier houses, the 8th house represents death, other people’s money (i.e. what we owe, our partners income or inheritance) and fear itself. However, since these two benefics will be hanging out, you will likely benefit from various things this house stands for, for example:
your spouse or partner may experience a boost or boon in their finances
you or your spouse/partner may receive an inheritance or a higher tax refund than expected
you may make peace or see the positive sides of the heavier sides of life
Virgo Rising
If you have Virgo rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 7th house. Another one of the powerful angular houses in your chart, the 7th house represents your partnerships, be they your spouse or business partners as well as other people you encounter in general. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you might experience:
positive support and love from your partner; relationships in general should be going well at this time
the appearance of a promising romantic or business partner
a fortunate time for your partner (like the 8th, this house can speak to what happens in their life rather than what directly happens in yours)
A word of warning: Jupiter in particular can tend towards being overly optimistic and view the world through rose colored glasses, and with Neptune also in Pisces and within orb of conjunction with Jupiter, there is a danger here that you may be too overly idealizing or beautifying the flaws of your partner or potential love. Although this transit is mostly very positive, be sure to keep this tendency in mind.
Libra Rising
If you have Libra rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 6th house. The 6th house represents illness and hard, usually thankless work. However, when Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you will have better fortune here than usual. For example, you may:
find it easier and more pleasant to take care of every day tasks
have more support and enjoyment in your work
better health or good luck in terms of recovery if you are ill
A word of warning: As with this placement in the first house, be careful not to over indulge in ways that may take a toll on your health (e.g. overeating, drinking too much, etc.). Although this placement is fortunate, it can also lead to excess or being overly optimistic in health matters, so keep this in mind.
Scorpio Rising
If you have Scorpio rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 5th house. The 5th house stands for romance, pleasure, entertainment, hobbies, children and sexuality. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may have good fortune in:
bounty and inspiration in your creative pursuits
a boost in general pleasure and entertainment; go out and enjoy yourself or throw a party!
a great time for sex and love affairs
a boost in fertility, especially if the moon is playing along (e.g. when it goes into Pisces at the end of the month)
A word of warning: If you’re a woman and DON’T want to become pregnant, take extra precautions this month. Although the general warning that I’ve mentioned several times about not over indulging or idealizing, for example, a new lover, in this particular transit, I would say just let yourself go and enjoy yourself – while keeping in mind that this will not last forever.
Sagittarius Rising
If you have Sagittarius rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 4th house. Another one of the powerful angular houses in your chart, the 4th house represents you home, ancestry and your parents in general and father in particular. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may:
feel inspired to beautify your home and feel particularly happy there
find inspiration and beauty in your ancestry
restore and/or boost a harmonious relationship with your parents
have fortune finding a new home
A word of warning: With all this watery energy and Neptune, the planet that symbolizes dissolving boundaries, watch out for water damage or dripping pipes. However, if this does occur, you should still have good fortune with any necessary repairs!
Capricorn Rising
If you have Capricorn rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 3rd house. The 3rd house stands for your local neighborhood or region, communication (including online) and your siblings. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may experience good fortune in:
your neighborhood or town; this is a great time to meet more positive people locally!
your relationship with your siblings; if you’ve had tension here, this would be a good time for reconciliation
communication, especially in spreading positive and optimistic sentiments
Aquarius Rising
If you have Aquarius rising, this means Venus joining Jupiter in Pisces will be taking place in your 2nd house. The 2nd house represents your finances and belongings. When Venus and Jupiter meet up here, you may experience good fortune in:
your finances
acquiring beautiful objects that fill you with inspiration
A word of warning: As mentioned previously, Jupiter can err on the side of being overly optimistic and Venus loves luxury, so be careful not to spend beyond your means!
Venus will be in Pisces from April 5 until May 2/3 and Jupiter will remain in the sign until May 10, so when it comes to the good stuff I’ve mentioned in this post then carpe diem during this time!
p.s. I didn’t include a podcast this time because I’m currently on vacation in the Alps. Here’s a picture to kick of the inspiration and joy I hope you feel this April!
